That was close: on the A8 near Peterskirchen (Upper Austria), the car of a Croatian couple suddenly braked and stopped. Seconds later the engine was on fire and then the whole car. The driver (48) and his wife escaped the flames in time.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, a 48-year-old Croat drove his car on the Innkreisautobahn A8 towards Suben, while his wife was in the passenger seat. In the vicinity of Peterskirchen, the engine started and the driver had to stop. Shortly afterwards, a fire broke out at the front of the vehicle and quickly spread throughout the car.
Prisoners were unharmed
The driver and his wife were able to get to safety in time and were unharmed. The fire brigade extinguished the burning car, for which the A8 had to be temporarily closed.
