Tragic accident at work in Grossarl: A 53-year-old was killed in an accident with a road roller. The accident happened on Monday, the man was only discovered on Tuesday.
De Pongauer was alone on Monday afternoon with roadworks along a freight road in Grossarl. He left the road with his 15-ton road roller and fell about 50 meters into a steep forest. The 53-year-old was thrown from the cab and crushed by the construction equipment.
The accident initially went unnoticed. It was not until Tuesday around 07:00 that the man’s colleagues came to the construction site and found the victim. The alarmed doctor could only determine death. Almost 50 men from the volunteer fire brigade, mountain rescue and the Red Cross were deployed during the rescue operation.
