Last generation: – Climate activist Anja Windl imprisoned in Germany

Date:

The well-known climate activist Anja Windl is in preventive detention in Germany. She will stay there along with two other members of the Last Generation until September 12, the organization announced on Platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

For another 17 people, preventive detention has already been requested. This refers to temporary deprivation of liberty intended to prevent criminal offenses or significant administrative offences. Despite this measure, the last generation announced that they would continue their protests. We will not let this stop us from continuing to champion a future worth living.

“Judges who judge us as if we were criminals, corporations who put their interests in profit above the livelihood of future generations. We don’t do that anymore!” the group wrote on Tuesday. What exactly led to the arrest of Windl and other members was not disclosed in the messages.

Not the first police detention
Anja Windl recently took part in protests in Munich and, according to her own statement, had already been in police custody for several hours. “But I’m used to that from Austria,” she said in an interview with Bild newspaper. Born in Germany, she is one of the best-known faces of the movement in this country. She studies psychology in Klagenfurt and lives in Graz. In recent months she has been threatened with deportation from Austria.

Demands of the last generation include 100 km/h on the Autobahn, an end to fossil fuels and a permanent ticket of 9 euros for public transport in Germany. According to the members, the ways to achieve these goals should be non-violent, but creative and attention-grabbing. For example, it became known for sticking it on streets and works of art.
