Dive platform scandal – Steyr lifeguards ended after kicking

Date:

A lifeguard in Steyr, Upper Austria, has attracted huge media attention in recent weeks. As shown in a video, the lifeguard roughly kicked a young man off the ten-meter tower. Now it is clear how things will continue with the lifeguard: The employment relationship has ended.

For the bathing establishments in Steyr, the “Causa Freibad” is over. On Wednesday, a meeting took place between the lifeguard and the management of the Steyrer Stadtbetriebe. “It was agreed to terminate the employment relationship,” someone confirms when asked by “Krone”. The lifeguard involved will therefore not return to the outdoor pool and will not be accommodated in any other Steyr leisure centre.

Mutual Termination
“The lifeguard was insightful from the start and knows he made a mistake. The termination is mutual. The lifeguard is now going to shorten his vacation,” says the press service of the city of Steyr. According to information from Krone, the man would still have to hand in his keys on Friday. That seems to be the end of the chapter. It is still unclear who the victim is. The young man has still not reported.

Kick in the back
It may never be possible to clarify why the situation escalated so much. Unless the victim reports, which no one actually assumes anymore. Because the incident had already taken place on August 13, more than two weeks ago. At that time, the young man was the last one standing on the diving tower. But he couldn’t or wouldn’t jump down, so the lifeguard climbed up and helped.

With a kick in the back, he sent the young man thirty feet down. Fortunately, the victim was not injured in the fall. The incident has no further consequences for the young man. But the lifeguard had to give up his job because of this.
