A fatal accident in the Alps took place in Salzburg on Thursday afternoon. A tour guide fell more than 100 meters during the descent into the Steinernes Meer.
The 65-year-old climber from Germany was killed. The tour leader of the German Alpine Association was traveling with a group from the Ingolstadt House to the Riemann House. During the descent between Ahlhorn (2467 meters) and Mitterhorn, he slipped and fell more than 100 meters, according to the mountain rescue. The rescue helicopter’s emergency doctor was only able to determine the man’s death.
Due to the weather conditions, it took several hours to rescue the victim. The helicopter team “Libelle” was able to fly the climber into the valley in the late afternoon.
