Train accident in Bgld – red light missed: train driver (68) killed

Date:

A train crushed a car in Burgenland – carelessness may have been the cause of a tragic accident, according to research. The “Krone” knows the sad background of the drama.

As is known, the accident happened on Tuesday around 6 p.m. A driver (68) from Vienna, who apparently had taken a visitor’s day, was driving from Sopron via Zagersdorf towards Draßburg when he came to a level crossing.

Man had not stopped
As the investigations showed, the 68-year-old may have missed the red light. He didn’t stop. The approaching train collided with full force into the car rolling on the track.

No chance of survival
For the driver, all help came too late. The team of the emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 3 was only able to determine the death of 68-year-old Wener. The driver and passengers were not injured.

The railway line and the national highway were closed until 8:40 p.m. The fire brigades of Draßburg, Mattersburg and Siegendorf carried out the recovery of the accident debris. “The extent of the damage to the train is still unclear,” the report said.

Investigation after accident closed in February
The Public Prosecution Service of Eisenstadt has stopped the investigation into the Red Cross driver Franz L.. He and two helpers were on their way to an emergency in February when an accident occurred in Horitschon. The ambulance drove past a lane divider on the B62 in the area to overtake a couple’s car.

No negligence
When driver Anton W. (69) turned left, the collision could no longer be avoided. The driver and his wife Gabriele (66) succumbed to their serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

The couple was driving home from a funeral. An expert opinion now shows that the Red Cross leader cannot be accused of negligence.
