The Ukrainian army would be allowed to attack Russian objects in Crimea. An adviser in the president’s office spoke of an “absolute consensus” among Western countries. A year ago, the partners had spoken out against attacks on the annexed Black Sea peninsula.
“Today there is an absolute consensus that we can destroy everything Russian in the occupied territories, for example in Crimea,” said adviser in the presidential office, Mikhail (Mykhailo) Podoliak, Tuesday night.
Podoljak referred to a statement by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens). She said on Monday that the Russian army bombed “non-stop” civilian targets in Ukraine, such as hospitals, grain silos and churches. The country would only defend itself “within the framework of international law”.
Drone attacks are on the rise
“We did not start this war,” said Podoliak, foreign policy adviser to President Volodimir Zelensky. The drones used in attacks in Russia are “of unknown origin.” Overall, however, drone strikes are on the rise as Russian leaders lose control of the skies and power apparatus. The Ukrainian army is currently attacking military objects in Crimea, military airports and the capital Moscow with drones.
The Russian side reported again on Tuesday morning that they had destroyed two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. They would have flown over the Tula area south of Moscow. As for Podoliak’s testimony about the endorsement of Western states, this would imply that the West is directly involved in the war against Russia. This gives Moscow the opportunity “to take action against anyone and everyone in the NATO countries,” former Russian head of state Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram. “The predictions of the apocalypse are getting closer.”
Zelensky had repeatedly demonstrated his determination to reconquer Crimea. Only recently has he promised a negotiated solution (see video above). However, he points out that this can also be enforced.
Russia controls 100,000 square kilometers
The war has already lasted eighteen months. Including Crimea, the Russian occupiers control more than 100,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory. That is more than the area of Austria.
