Terrible accident on Thursday at the Tyrolean military training area Lizum-Walchen. The brakes of a Dutch army vehicle, in which four soldiers were sitting, failed while driving on a forest road. The vehicle overturned – one of the occupants was trapped and seriously injured!
The devastating accident happened around 2:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon. According to police, a Dutch soldier was driving the army vehicle in the municipal area of Wattenberg (Innsbruck-Land district) on the local forest road from the Lizum military training area to Walchen base camp further down the valley when the brakes apparently failed.
Vehicle sent into an embankment – overturns
“There were three other members of the Dutch army in the vehicle. According to the driver, because the vehicle could no longer be braked, he steered it against the uphill slope to bring it to a halt. The vehicle overturned and eventually overturned.
The rollover caused one of the occupants to become trapped under the vehicle and was seriously injured. “The seriously injured could be freed by army colleagues and Austrian army colleagues who were present and received first aid from the army doctor at the military training area,” the police continued. The Dutchman was then flown to the clinic in Innsbruck with the alerted rescue helicopter.
vehicle was secured
The vehicle was recovered by the Austrian army with the support of the Dutch army and towed to camp Walchen. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Innsbruck has ordered the seizure of the vehicle and an examination by an expert.
