A 45-year-old Croatian had caused an accident on the A14 on Christmas Eve, then pressed the accelerator and drove away.
The judicial aftermath of an alcohol drive ended on Friday for the previously innocent Croat with a four-month suspended prison sentence and an unconditional fine of 4,800 euros. The court found the 45-year-old guilty of causing bodily harm through negligence.
Drunk and hit
The man, who lives in Switzerland, got behind the wheel of his Porsche on Christmas Eve last year and ‘shot’ the car of a young woman who was driving in front of him on the A14 towards Tyrol. The woman was seriously injured and her passenger was slightly injured. But instead of caring for the victims, the unharmed Croat fled from the scene of the accident.
That is why the Public Prosecution Service not only accuses him of negligently causing bodily harm, but also of abandoning an injured person. At the time, the woman not only had bruises all over her body, but also suffered from a post-traumatic disorder. Therefore, she was on sick leave for two months.
Don’t judge definitively
During the trial, the accused pleads only partially guilty. Because he doubts the seriousness of the injuries. However, the judge rejected a request for evidence submitted by an expert lawyer Georg Mandl.
Now that the defendant has already assured the insurer that he will pay for the damage and this has already partially happened, the court considers the offense of negligence of bodily injury fulfilled. The verdict is not final.
