Climate activist Martha Krumpeck, who had already caused a stir with a hunger strike lasting several weeks, clung to the street in front of a school in the Stubenbastei in central Vienna on Monday. “I can’t see the dreams of our youth being sacrificed to the fossil fuel craze,” Krumpeck said.
According to the management, after she was taken off the street by the emergency services, the activist was taken to the Brandstätte police station and presented to a doctor. Then she left the police station again.
“I don’t know what else to do”
“I demonstrated, I signed petitions, I collapsed on the street after 44 days of hunger strike – nothing worked. All I can do is put my body in the way of the madness, over and over,” said the 30-year-old. “We only have a few years left to avoid a climate collapse.”
Krumpeck is one of the activists of the “Last Generation”. The organization demands a commitment from the federal government to the Austrian constitution “and thus to the preservation of our livelihoods for future generations”. As a first practical step, a ban on fracking was pushed across Austria.
