State security investigators have dealt a heavy blow to a radical Islamist group in Upper Austria. Nine men and one woman between the ages of 15 and 23 were found. They had been involved with the terrorist militia Islamic State and the ‘Caucasus Emirate’.
The suspects come from Austria, Turkey, Iraq, the Russian Federation and Croatia or are stateless. They live in the Linz-Land district, some members have a criminal record. They allegedly campaigned for the terrorist groups and made plans to set up a special prayer room that would be decorated with an IS flag. During house searches at the beginning of July, dozens of mobile phones, laptops, PCs, other data carriers and propaganda material were seized.

In addition, the group is accused of inciting a 19-year-old man who spray-painted IS graffiti in St. Pölten and caused further property damage – who has not yet been legally sentenced to two years of partial prison.
The suspects are being investigated on suspicion of a criminal and terrorist organization. An 18-year-old member of the group is in custody.
