Thirteen chickens were killed in a barn in Lembach, another seven animals have disappeared. A DNA sample ‘exonerated’ wolves, as was the case in the Walding chicken massacre. Incidentally, there is now completely unexpected support for the controversial Upper Austrian wolf scheme – namely from Brussels!
“Fox, you stole the goose” has now been rewritten in the Mühlviertel as “Fox, you host of the Hendln g’schnappt”! The state’s wolf monitoring is also investigating chicken coop attacks, and the second major incident is again attributed to a “Reineke”. To be precise in Lembach, where thirteen chickens were killed and seven disappeared. The DNA sample proves that a fox was at work – as in Walding, where 200 broilers were killed in early June. Here, too, there were only traces of genes from the fox.
As is known, wolves are now hunted on the Krippenstein and in Unterweißenbach. That of the Krippenstein has now survived half of the four ‘launch’ weeks. “Once the deadline has passed, it cannot simply be extended. It is de facto reset to zero, and something has to happen again that justifies the shooting,” explains Agriculture Minister Michaela Langer-Weninger. In the meantime, another sheep has been found injured on the Krippenstein, it is believed that the outlaw “malicious wolf” has struck again here.
Protection of help for wolf ordinance
In Unterweißenbach, the “risky wolf” can be hunted until September 23 – she made a good impression again, but not when she was high. Incidentally, EU President Ursula von der Leyen has called on national authorities to respond to problem wolves: “The EU rules provide for this.”
