According to the European Atmospheric Service Copernicus, people in Europe have to get used to dust from the Sahara again. As the EU program announced on Monday, a large cloud of dust is currently moving west across the Atlantic.
The dust cloud should therefore reach the Caribbean in the coming days. Foothills are also expected in the Iberian Peninsula and parts of Western Europe next weekend, the statement said.
The Atmosphere Service has already transported large amounts of Saharan sand across the Mediterranean and parts of Europe this year. That will continue. The phenomenon occurs several times a year and led in mid-March in Austria to a yellow-red discoloration of the sky and a layer of dust on cars and windows.
This time, however, the phenomenon should be barely noticeable due to the significantly lower amount of Saharan dust in Austria.
