At Wein&Co, “data from a number of users of the online store was stolen” in a hacker attack, the company informed customers on Friday afternoon. Only customers with online shopping accounts are affected.
However, payment details, credit card details or banking details were not accessible to the attackers. Customers with loyalty cards for branches or bars are also not affected.
“System security restored”
The attack has already been ‘stopped’ and the security of the systems has been restored, Wein&Co, a subsidiary of the Hamburg wine trading group Hawesko, announced to potentially affected customers on Friday afternoon. A report was also filed with the Austrian data protection authority and a criminal complaint was filed with the police.
Names, addresses, e-mail addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers and certain order data have been affected by the theft. Passwords were only stored in highly encrypted form and stolen in this form.
Wein&Co recommends that all customers change their passwords the next time they log in and pay particular attention to any suspicious emails or unsolicited correspondence in their email accounts. “If you notice any unusual activity in connection with your customer account or if you have any further questions, please contact our data protection experts at datenschutz@weinco.at,” the customer message said.
