Alko-Lenker Wolfgang Greil (53) is not thinking about stepping down for the time being. The mayor of Katsdorf and the head of the state business association are now facing a hefty fine. Because Greil had a blood alcohol level of 1.82.
It was a misstep with fatal consequences. Wolfgang Greil (53), ÖVP mayor of Katsdorf, crashed with the e-scooter at 03:00 on Sunday. He suffered facial injuries and ended up in hospital.
“Of course it was stupid. I wanted to put the e-scooter in the trunk of my car and drove the few meters. Then I wanted to walk home. That’s only a kilometer away,” Greil told the “Krone”. But he didn’t get that far and had an accident after only a few meters.
And because Greil is the mayor of Katsdorf and the state director of the Economic Association, the question naturally arises about the consequences. “I see no reason for consequences. I have not put anyone in danger but myself,” said the man from the Mühlviertel, who had to undergo another eye surgery on Monday.
The business association clearly supports the politicians. “Wolfgang Greil has already taken responsibility for his misconduct. He has also issued a public apology. Of course, there was also a clear discussion about the matter internally,” said Vice-President Thomas Mitterhauser.
Criticism of lack of role model effect
SPÖ state manager Florian Koppler is outraged by this attitude: “The state governor’s party has an exemplary function. Your dealings with a top official who drove a vehicle while drunk is a guide for everyone in our state. We will give the ÖVP to that to measure.”
However, there will at least be official consequences for the local chief. Greil was reported and should therefore also be fined. How high it is depends on the performance of his e-scooter. It is therefore unclear whether a suspension of the driving license will be effective. “Up to 25 km/h, the scooter is considered a bicycle. The law does not provide for a withdrawal here,” says Dominik Behr of the BH Perg. Because if the e-scooter goes faster than 25 km/h, it is considered a moped and that can cost the driver’s license. There is also a fine of between 1600 and 5200 euros.
