Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his delegation are stuck in India after the G20 summit. This is due to technical problems with an aircraft that cannot be solved in the short term. Now a military plane should help.
Trudeau and his delegation could probably fly back to Canada on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense announced there. No details were given about the technical issues. Trudeau took part in the summit of the major industrialized and emerging countries in the Indian capital New Delhi.
Here you see a tweet from Trudeau about the G20 summit last weekend.
His travel plans had already caused unrest before the plane crash. Relations between India and Canada have long been considered tense. During a brief meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he highlighted “strong concerns about continued anti-India activities by extremist elements in Canada.” Many Indians live in Canada, and a particularly large number of them belong to the Sikh religious community.
Modi’s concerns point to the Khalistan movement, which demands a separate state for Sikhs on Indian soil. The Prime Minister said they would incite violence against Indian diplomats.
Break in the German government
The German delegation recently had similar problems to the Canadian delegation. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had to cancel a planned trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji in August due to malfunctions on a Bundeswehr A340 aircraft.
