A tragic alpine accident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Dachstein Mountains in the northern Eastern Alps. All help came too late for a 42-year-old Briton.
The accident happened at the exit of the “Intersport via ferrata”, which leads to the Großer Donnerkogel on the Gosaukamm: a British mountaineer fell 70 to 100 meters down a rocky gully in pathless terrain and ended up in a rubble gully.
Eyewitnesses alerted the emergency services
Eyewitnesses observed the accident and immediately called the emergency services. Two helicopter crews and emergency services from the Hallein Alpine Police and the Abtenau Police went looking for the victim. The crew of the C14 emergency medical helicopter found the 42-year-old a short time later. Only the man’s death could be determined.
The Hallein Alpine Police is conducting further accident investigations.
