A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a two-year-old girl was found in Kingsley Pond near Bordon in Hampshire, UK, on Sunday. Little Annabel M. was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead the following Monday.
The two-year-old girl was reported missing on Sunday around 5 p.m. by her parents Peter (39) and Alice (40). Shortly after the emergency call, Hampshire and Isle of Wight police were deployed to find the child. It was found in Kingsley Pond and taken to hospital, where it was pronounced dead the next day.
“Absolute tragedy for the village”
A friend who lives near the family home told the Telegraph: “We are really upset. Annabel was very, very quiet, a sweet little girl and she was shy.” Annabel’s parents’ house is about 600 meters from the pond. The resident told Independent magazine: “It is an absolute tragedy for the village, we are all in complete shock.”
Witnesses reported hearing an adult at the pond shouting “help, help” and then seeing an injured man wrapped in blankets being carried into an ambulance.
Police are trying to determine what exactly happened. The suspect is a woman (approximately 40 years old, further details are not known) who has already been arrested on suspicion of murder. “She is currently in police custody,” it said.
