Terrorist Salah Abdeslam, convicted of the Islamist attacks in Paris and Brussels, will not serve his life sentence in Belgium. Last week, Abdeslam requested not to be extradited to France and to serve his sentence in Belgium. A court in Brussels rejected these claims on Wednesday.
According to the judge, it could not be sufficiently proven that his human rights were violated in France.
Abdeslam was found guilty of the terror attacks in Paris in 2015 and those in Brussels in 2016. The attacks in the French and Belgian capitals were carried out by the same terrorist cell. He has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in France.
The sentences for the terrorist attacks in Brussels are still pending
He and four other suspects were extradited to Belgium in July last year for the trial surrounding the terrorist attacks in Brussels. The exact verdict is still pending. It is expected in the coming days after jury and court deliberations.
In the series of attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, extremists killed 130 people and injured 350 others. The terrorist attacks on the airport of the Belgian capital Brussels and in a metro station on March 22, 2016 left 35 dead and 340 injured.
