‘Alien’ mummies reach Mexican parliament

Date:

A self-proclaimed UFO expert has presented two alleged alien mummies to Mexico’s parliament. He had to swear that he was telling the truth.

Journalist Jaime Maussan presented two boxes containing the alleged mummified remains of “non-human beings” during a hearing on Tuesday (local time). The action was organized by MP Sergio Gutiérrez “in the name of the public interest”.

“They are non-human beings,” Maussan said. “But we don’t want to call them aliens because we don’t know,” he added. Maussan claims to have discovered the mummies in Peru. Specialists from the National University of Mexico used radiocarbon measurements to date them at around 1,000 years old.

Labor distances itself
The university’s physics department confirmed in a statement that they had conducted tests, but only to determine the age and not the origin of the specimens. The laboratory “dissociates itself from any subsequent use, interpretation or misrepresentation of the results it issued,” the statement said.

Just visibly amused
The demonstration in parliament led to numerous amused reactions online. It shows “the contempt this country has for science,” wrote one user on the online service X, formerly Twitter. Others shared videos of the event with comments such as “the Martians have landed” and one user called for the appointment of UFO expert Maussan as “president of intergalactic relations”.
