Avanza Durangaldea also assures that attacks in driving positions are “repeated”, and that verbal attacks in night shifts are “common”.
The works council of Avanza Durangaldea, concessionaire of the Bizkaibus transport service, has denounced “the gender harassment” suffered by a driver of one of the buses by a traveler, who handed out notes and sent messages to the woman’s mobile phone.
As the works council said in a note, the events took place on September 4 on the service covering the Zeanuri line, when a passenger boarded the bus and gave the driver a screen-printed card with a telephone number and a message. Would you like to have coffee with me? I’m very generous.’
At first the driver ignored the card, but hours later she started receiving messages on her personal phone and felt “overwhelmed” and “saddened” by “the harassment” she had suffered, the same source said.
As stated, the Committee has learned that the same passenger has on previous occasions distributed these cards to both female travelers and other drivers.
The union representation at Avanza Durangaldea regrets that attacks on driving positions are “repeated”, including in the form of verbal attacks, “common” on night shifts and early in the morning, when travelers return from parties or nightclubs.
