The appeal procedure did not change the amount of the sentence. But: The four surviving relatives of the murder victim will receive less compensation.
The killer appeared again before the regional court, wearing a black mask. Christian L. had appealed against the judgment of January 12. That was the subject of Thursday’s lawsuit. At the time, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and institutionalization for the murder and other violent crimes against his wife. “I’m so sorry,” L. said again in court, mentioning his children.
Lawyer Franz Essl demanded a lesser sentence. District Attorney Robert Holzleitner responded, “This sentence is the only appropriate one.” This is how the jury saw it: ‘It is not just about the murder, but also about the crimes that preceded it.’
The only change in the appeal: the four surviving relatives of the murdered woman (30) each received only 25,000 euros in compensation – instead of 50,000 euros.
