In June, a 61-year-old Viennese man suffering from dementia disappeared while on holiday on the Croatian island of Krk. His family has not given up hope that he is still alive.
It must be a wonderful holiday. On June 19, Martina P. (61) and her husband Roland, of the same age, traveled to Krk to spend a relaxing week there – together with some family members. “We wanted to lie on the beach, eat good food, chat,” says the woman.
But shortly after arriving at the family’s rented holiday villa in Kras, disaster struck. In an unnoticed moment, Roland P. – he suffers from moderate dementia – left the building. The former technician has since gone missing.
The last trace of the missing person
Numerous searches have now been conducted for him on the island. All were unsuccessful. Which means the Viennese’s fate remains completely unclear. “It can’t be true,” said his daughter Denise, “that no one saw my father after he left the house.”
Croatian media contacted
With the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has now been possible to publish reports about the disappearance case in various Croatian media – in newspapers, on television – with photos of Roland P. But apparently no one can imagine the 1.78 meter tall, slim man remember Krk, although sniffer dogs are said to have followed his trail to a campsite in Njivice.
Martina P’s guess: “That my husband asked someone there to give him a lift to Vienna. Despite his illness, he always knew where he came from, where his house was.” The pensioner’s further suspicion: “Maybe he is now living on the street, somewhere between Croatia and Austria, as a homeless person.”
Donation account set up
In the meantime, a Croatian private detective has been commissioned by the desperate family to investigate: “Such investigations are of course associated with high costs.” That is why Roland P’s wife, daughter and son are asking for donations.
