In the early morning hours, a devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Wilfersdorf, near Gleisdorf (Styria). A 57-year-old man could only be saved dead. How the fire started is still under investigation.
Around 4 a.m., a neighbor noticed the fire in a residential building in the Wilfersdorf region and immediately alerted the emergency services. During the firefighting efforts, which lasted several hours, firefighters discovered a male body. The man apparently could not get to safety in time. As the police also confirmed, he could only be found dead.
Man lived in isolation
It is probably the 57-year-old resident; accurate identification will only be possible after the autopsy. The man lived very withdrawn and alone in the house, which was completely destroyed by the fire. According to the current state of research, negligence by third parties or an accident can be ruled out.
Road closed
More than 100 emergency services from the Ludersdorf, Haselbach, Gleisdorf and Labuch fire brigades fought the flames on site and the fire was extinguished around noon. Due to the large-scale operation, Riesstrasse had to be temporarily closed.
