During a difficult operation in the Ötschergräben (Lower Austria), the mountain rescuers not only had to fly out of the hiker with a rescue rope. A relative who tried to come to her aid was also injured.
A family walk in the Ötschergräben in the Lilienfeld district ended with two injured. The situation of a 70-year-old pensioner was particularly dramatic. The woman fell on rough terrain near Lassingfall on Saturday afternoon. Mountain rescue had already been alerted, but three family members wanted to follow immediately and rescue the hiker. But that didn’t work – quite the contrary: one of the men injured his shoulder and needed help from others in the canyon.
Dangerous Challenge
A large contingent of emergency services came to the scene, including the rescue helicopters “Christophorus 3” and “15”. Even for the experienced helpers, rescuing the two injured in the rocky terrain was a great and dangerous challenge. Still, a member of the Annaberg mountain rescue service managed to reach the victim within 25 minutes.
Two abseiling stations
Like colleagues, it descended via two abseiling stations. Both wounded were able to be flown away by the helicopters with extended rescue ropes. The two uninjured family members were also rescued from the canyon. After about three hours, the operation was over.
“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the quick and professional help and for the support that our relatives have also received,” said the family full of praise for the emergency services.
