In the heated discussion about the tunnel renovation of the A10 in Salzburg, Asfinag and the business community are now entering into a public discussion. State Councilor for Transport Stefan Schnöll has already contacted Minister Leonore Gewessler. The Chamber of Labor wants the ‘locals first’ principle and canned trucks.
“Factually incorrect.” Or: “There is some professional knowledge lacking.” Road manager Asfinag responded with harsh words to the criticism of the planning for the tunnel construction site on the Tauern motorway between Golling and Werf. Who are the unflattering words intended for? To Peter Buchmüller, President of the Economic Chamber of Salzburg. He loudly suggested a quick rethink and phased renovation of the five highway tunnels. State Transport Councilor Stefan Schnöll had also called for something similar. He probably saw the big project in this form before construction started, also because his traffic authority had given permission for it.
Letter to the minister
Asfinag counters that the renovation method “would increase the construction time fivefold to ten years and lead to a much higher burden on the population.” Schnöll wants to convene a summit urgently. His office has already sent a letter to Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler and the Asfinag board. There is a thick catalog of requirements and a need for coordination.
Truck block handling based on the Tyrolean model?
Chairman of the Chamber of Labour, Peter Eder, is now involved in the dispute over the tunnel construction site. “What has always happened has happened: our own people are being harmed by mass transit.” Eder has three possible solutions. The state, federal government and Asfinag could implement these quickly. Eder wants permanent departure barriers back. According to the ‘locals first’ principle, alternative routes, such as over the Lueg Pass or through the Fritztal, must be reserved for residents of Salzburg. Destination and source traffic are excluded. “The economy must not be damaged further, something must be done.”
The immediate solutions also have consequences for busy traffic. Eder wants to introduce a truck driving ban on the A10 in the winter, which will take effect from Friday afternoon. The truck dosing system based on the Tyrolean model could also cause a stir: block shipping for trucks if necessary. “That would be an important signal,” said the head of the Chamber of Labor. The local population should not be disadvantaged by this.
