At this point, the convening unions have emphasized this “deterioration” of their working conditions “It is not just a matter of now, which only affects substitute teaching staff, but it is something that has affected us for a long time and which affects all teaching and research staff (PDI).”
According to him, this deterioration is the result “structural reasons” and is mainly related to ‘the lack of adequate financing of the Basque Public University”.
They have also reported delays of weeks and even months in hiring substitute teaching staff or that the unsubstituted workload “falls on the rest of the teaching staff or forces them to join groups at the expense of the quality of education. “
On the other hand, and as in other sectors of the public sector, the four unions have denounced that UPV/EHU workers have seen the value of their salaries decline ‘year on year’ as the salary increases of the recent years ‘have not resulted in any compensation for the increase in the cost of living.
