About two weeks ago, a 93-year-old sailor fell overboard into Lake Constance. The search for the missing person has so far been unsuccessful. Two dogs were now brought in that had been specially trained to search for people. Finally they were able to locate the man. A diving robot from the Lindau water police recovered his body at a depth of 60 meters.
Water sports enthusiasts heard cries for help on the afternoon of September 6 and then found an abandoned boat. Rescue workers from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Austria and Switzerland searched for the man until nightfall – unfortunately in vain. In the days that followed, in addition to sonar equipment and divers, body-sniffing dogs were also deployed on Lake Constance. They hadn’t found the man. Now two ‘man trailers’ brought a twist, as the sniffer dogs are trained to detect people’s individual scent. They were able to track down the sailor near the Lindau Powder Tower.
Sailor was rescued by a diving robot
The dogs detect the human scent that reaches the water surface. Even the smallest amounts would be sufficient. The 93-year-old was rescued last Friday with the help of the diving robot of the Lindau water police.
