  • The US State Department has announced the formation of a new unit to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine. The agency is designed to “gather evidence of war crimes and other atrocities committed by Russia in Ukraine”.

  • Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov fears Russian troops will dig in to the south and east of the country. Russia was preparing for a longer-term military operation.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi described his telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as “pretty productive”. Among other things, military support to Ukraine was discussed.
  • EU Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni warns of excessive hopes for rapid reconstruction of Ukraine’s devastated areas. “The reconstruction of Ukraine will be the task of a generation,” Gentiloni said.
