A Viennese sports teacher is said to have abused several boys between the ages of nine and fourteen until his suicide in May 2019. It has now become known that the first complaint against him was lost by post.
During the investigation by the Public Prosecution Service, it turned out that two officials sent the first report from Lower Austria to Upper Austria ten years ago. The alleged crime scene was there. But the ad never arrived. “It may have been lost in the mail,” said Erich Habitzl, spokesman for the Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor’s office. The civil servants were suspected of abuse of office, but this could not be proven. Numerous witnesses were heard. “There was no evidence of misconduct.”
The case never came to court
The limitation period has now expired. As reported, the case concerns a sports teacher at a high school in Vienna who worked as a holiday caregiver during the summer months, with interruptions between 1990 and 2010. A former participant had already gone to the police in 2013 and filed a report against the teacher. The man had attacked him during a massage, said the victim, who was already an adult at the time. Although the teacher was interviewed, the case never went to trial (see video above).
The man also worked in a basketball club and still had the opportunity to practice his profession and thus stay in touch with the boys entrusted to him. He eventually committed suicide in 2019.
