Two hunters were independently reported missing on Thursday evening in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, which borders Austria. On Friday morning it was clear: both fighters had been killed at a distance of less than 20 kilometers in the Lower Engadine; according to police, both had external injuries.
The two hunters, a 74-year-old and a 58-year-old, were reported missing on Thursday evening between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., the Graubünden cantonal police announced on Friday. The 74-year-old was found by his son in Val Sampuoir in Ardez that same evening at around 10 p.m.
Second body discovered in the morning
Three mountain rescue teams with two search dogs searched for the 58-year-old until they finally found him shortly after 8am on Friday morning in the La Stüra area at 2,600 meters above sea level.
“Purely Random”
The fact that both accidents happened on the same evening was “pure coincidence”, a spokeswoman for the cantonal police of Graubünden told the Swiss ‘Blick’. The emphasis is on whether the men died of natural causes or from a fall. However, the possibility of violence cannot be ruled out at this time. The police are now investigating the case together with the Public Prosecution Service.
