The last generation again significantly slowed traffic in the German capital on Thursday – but this time instead of staying together, they blocked traffic again with so-called walking blocks.
Just as protesters are once again drawing attention to the tipping points of global warming and using banners to express their demands, the situation is escalating again. Images that are known as far as possible.
A passing cyclist intervenes
In this case, for once, it is not angry motorists who resort to vigilante justice, but a passing cyclist. Without further ado, he grabs a protester and pushes him roughly to the ground, but that’s not all: he immediately grabs another protester by the backpack and pushes her roughly off the street.
However, the campaign was not particularly successful. As video footage shows, the activists quickly reunited and continued their protest undeterred.
Vigilante justice – not a good idea
In any case, intervening in such a situation and even getting physical is not a good idea. It is basically forbidden to drag, hit or even kick others against their will.
Such acts can constitute the crime of coercion and bodily harm and, if kicked with heavy shoes, even the crime of dangerous bodily harm – and are therefore punishable.
Self-defense as justification? Hardly likely
Only in a situation of absolute self-defense could such an attack be justified. However, this must be decided on a case-by-case basis and is considered unlikely in the event of a roadblock. Especially in this particular case, such an argument would probably not be tenable; there was of course no coercion for the cyclist and the cycle path was apparently not blocked. If he ends up in court as a result, he could now impose a sentence himself.
