Instead of hearing with their ears, they hear with their eyes; instead of speaking with their mouths, they speak with their hands, arms, upper body, head and face: we are talking about the deaf. Your daily life is often full of barriers. The Eisenstadt Hospital therefore hires a sign language interpreter for hearing-impaired patients.
Their special feature is not visible from the outside. In many cases, they only attract attention when they start communicating: deaf people communicating with each other in their native language, sign language. In all of Austria there are at least 8,000 to 10,000 children, women and men. In addition, there are several thousand people who are so severely deaf or hard of hearing that it is almost impossible for them to communicate through their hearing, even with hearing aids.
