A forest fire in Kirchberg in Tirol kept the fire service in the area busy on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services had to fight the flames in an area that was difficult to access for several hours before all the embers were contained. The trigger may have been a lightning strike into a tree.
The forest fire broke out in the area of Klausenbach at the inn “Fleckalm”. With the help of the Tyrolean and Salzburg police helicopters and the flight service of the St. Johann in Tirol volunteer fire brigade, it was finally extinguished. The Kirchberg volunteer fire brigade was also deployed with 20 emergency services.
Lightning allegedly struck a tree on Tuesday night. The fire caused embers nearby. The forest fire was extinguished just after 8 p.m. “There is no indication of intentional or negligent external causes for the fire,” police said.
