The Russian government announced that it would reduce its attacks on Kiev to facilitate negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation, but NATO has stated that “Russian units are not withdrawing, but repositioning”.
NATO assured Thursday it will not see Russia withdraw troops from the encirclement of Kiev and northern Ukraine to focus on Donbas, as Moscow had announced.
The Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberghas acknowledged that they have listened to recent Russian statements that the country will “reduce its military operations around Kiev and northern Ukraine”.
“But Russia has repeatedly lied about its intentions, so we can only judge Russia by its actions, not its words. According to our intelligence, Russian units are not retreating, but repositioning” said the Norwegian politician during a press conference at the presentation of the annual report on NATO activities.
In this sense, he stated that Moscow is “trying to regroup, resupply and strengthen its offensive in the Donbas region”.
“At the same time, Russia is keeping pressure on Kiev and other cities, so we can expect additional offensive actions that will cause even more suffering,” he warned.
Likewise, he believed that “Russia must end this senseless war, withdraw all its troops and speak in good faith.”
