The limits of the sport – Hard fouls and fights: From that moment on there is a risk of criminal prosecution

Date:

Horror mistakes in football, brutal body checks and boxing fights in ice hockey, kicks to the head in bloody cage fights. Sports risks that professionals must tolerate? Could be. But is that always the case? And what about amateurs who sustain injuries or are injured by performing (too) hard? When is there a risk of criminal prosecution and is there a right to compensation? An expert in the field of sports law explains a few things.

Another foul that hurts just to watch. In the top match in Honduras between CD Marathón and CD Olimpia (0:1), Marathón kicker André Orellana recently tackled two Olimpia players with studs in the front (see video below). A red card was rightly issued, and at least an apology from the perpetrator afterwards. Fans online immediately called for “a ban of at least three months,” and some even called for “life in prison!”
