Tragedy on field trip – pedestrian (78) hit by car and killed

Date:

A tragic accident took place in Rohrbach an der Lafnitz in Eastern Styria on Wednesday evening. While crossing the road, a 78-year-old woman was hit by a car and suffered such severe head injuries that she died at the scene of the accident.

Around 7:45 p.m., a 61-year-old from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district drove her car on the L405 from Vorau towards Rohrbach an der Lafnitz. At the same time, a group of retirees crossed the street at an inn to get to the parking lot across the street.

Cause unclear
As a result, the driver of the car may have, for an unknown reason, hit the last person crossing the road – a 78-year-old woman from Burgenland from the Oberpullendorf district – with her vehicle. The pensioner probably hit her head against the vehicle and lay unconscious on the side of the road.

Autopsy ordered
Red Cross troops carried out resuscitation measures. The emergency doctor present could only determine that the woman was dead.
The Public Prosecution Service has ordered a forensic autopsy.
