Authorities said new Russian attacks killed at least one person in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson on Wednesday evening. In addition, Russian forces fired multiple groups of attack drones across Ukraine last night.
A 41-year-old man was killed in the regional capital Kherson of the same name, military governor Olexander Prokudin said on Telegram.
Another man was injured. Not far from the city of Beryslaw, air raids by the Russian army also took place, it was said.
In recent days, civilians have been repeatedly killed or injured by shelling in the region, part of which is still occupied by Russian forces.
Zelensky speaks of “conscious terror”
“Today Russia is bombing Kherson, Beryslav and villages in the Kherson region with particular ferocity,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening video address. “This is deliberate terror on the part of the occupiers. My condolences go out to everyone who has lost their loved ones!”
Massive drone attack
Several dozen aircraft were destroyed during the massive drone attack on Ukraine, spokeswoman for the Armed Forces of Southern Ukraine Natalia Gumenyuk announced during a telethon.
“The attack was massive, but the air defenses were also quite active – more than 30 drones were destroyed,” she said. The head of the regional military administration of the Mykolaiv region, Vitaly Kim, had previously announced on Telegram that a new record for shot down drones could be set that night.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukraine was attacked with 44 Shahed kamikaze drones. They were launched from Russia’s Krasnodar region and Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia:
Attacks on the Eastern Front
Ukrainian troops repelled attacks by Russian forces on the eastern front on Thursday evening, a military spokesman said. “We continue to repel fierce enemy attacks in the vicinity of Klishchivka and Andriyvka,” Ilya Yevlash said on state television.
“Counteroffensive takes time”
In a message on Telegram, Zelensky briefly referred to “our advance in the Donetsk sector” in the east, but gave no details. He said the counter-offensive would take time and dismissed Western critics who said the advance was too slow and riddled with strategic mistakes.
