Drone attacks – Several dead after Russian shelling of Kherson

Date:

At least three people have been killed in Russian attacks in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, according to official reports. Another five residents were injured by the heavy shelling. The Russian army has attacked the region a total of 96 times in the past 24 hours.

According to military governor Olexander Prokudin, 45 shells were fired at the regional capital of Kherson, which is controlled only by Kiev.

Heavy shelling for days
According to Ukrainian authorities, two people were seriously injured in the city of Kherson on Friday morning and had to be taken to hospital. There had been repeated heavy shelling and civilian casualties in recent days (see video above).

South occupied by Russian troops
Russia has been waging a war of aggression against neighboring Ukraine for more than nineteen months. Kherson is one of the regions particularly hard hit by the fighting. The Ukrainian army managed to liberate part of the area, including the regional capital, late last year. However, the south remains occupied by Russian troops. Moscow also annexed the region, in violation of international law.

According to official information, Russian air defenses intercepted drones on Friday evening. A total of 11 Ukrainian drones were destroyed, state news agency Tass reported, citing the Defense Ministry. Ten drones were shot down in the Kursk region near the border with Ukraine, and another in the Kaluga region, about 200 kilometers southwest of Moscow.

Increased attacks on the hinterland
Meanwhile, attacks on the Russian hinterland are also increasing. Drones have also damaged objects in Moscow several times, even though the scale of damage and casualties caused by Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia cannot be compared to the scale of the Russian attacks.
