27 years after the crime, the alleged killer of rapper Shakur is charged

Date:

Some 27 years after the murder of American rapper Tupac Shakur, a suspect is still accused of the murder. A 60-year-old former gang leader was arrested and charged on Friday morning, several media reported. The man had previously spoken publicly repeatedly about being in the car from which Shakur was shot in 1996.

A search was conducted of the business in the city of Henderson, Nevada over the summer. Police seized several pieces of evidence (see video above). According to the British newspaper The Sun, it would be a Vibe magazine in which the rapper was depicted, .40 caliber bullets, several computers, a mobile phone, a hard drive and boxes of photos.

The US media referred to the Las Vegas prosecutor’s office regarding the arrest and charges. Tupac Shakur was one of the most successful rap artists of the 1990s. He worked as a musician, actor and activist and sold more than 75 million records worldwide. In June, he posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His death at the age of 25 was previously considered unexplained.

Brutal confrontation before death
On September 7, 1996, the musician watched a boxing match in Las Vegas with some friends. When they wanted to leave the place, a loud argument broke out with a gang member. Shakur attacked him and security forces ended the violent confrontation. Shortly afterwards, however, shots were fired at the car the rapper was sitting in. He was shot in the head and died in hospital from his serious injuries.

Before this dispute, the rapper was already involved in numerous lawsuits; for example, he was convicted of sexual harassment.
