The train is at a standstill – after the disruption, guests spent an hour on the Venetbahn

Date:

A brief moment of fear in the morning at the Venetbahn in Zams (Landeck district): After several power outages, the railway line had to be taken out of service. No one was injured, but they were trapped for over an hour. Research into the causes is ongoing. It was not the first incident in recent years.

“Currently not in operation!” says the website of Venet Bergbahnen AG in Zams. As it became known, there were several electricity outages on Sunday morning. “We have tried several times to get the railway line going again,” board member Stefan Klotz explains to the “Krone”.

There were about 13 people on the train when suddenly there was no way back and forth. “Emergency operations were possible for a short time, but there were also shutdowns. “We then decided to start the rescue chain,” Klotz said.

The worst-case scenario was avoided
Fortunately, the passengers did not have to abseil. After about 20 minutes in emergency operation, everyone could be transported to the valley or mountain station. No one was injured. Now we will investigate the causes.

From Monday, the Venetbahn will be in operation in the autumn and will only run from Friday to Sunday. But Klotz does not want to act hastily: “Until we know for sure where the error came from, we will certainly not drive. We certainly don’t need a follow-up scenario where the guests are dropped off.”

Not the first case in recent history
It is not the first time that the Venetbahn has been shut down due to a malfunction. In June last year, 17 people aged between 12 and 71 had to abseil from a height of about 35 metres. The cause at the time was an electronic defect. Also in 2021, the railway was shut down and 22 people and four dogs were rescued.
