The Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded in Stockholm on Monday. It goes to two scientists who developed the basis for the corona vaccination.
The Nobel Prize went to the Hungarian Katalin Karikó and the American researcher Drew Weissman. They will receive the prize for their discoveries in the field of nucleoside base modification, which enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against Covid-19, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm announced.

This year the Nobel Prizes have been awarded with eleven million Swedish crowns (about 930,000 euros).
Nobel Prize Week
The announcement in the medicine and physiology category marked the start of Nobel Prize week. The prize winner for physics follows on Tuesday, chemistry on Wednesday, literature on Thursday, the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday and economics on the following Monday.
The prizes are traditionally awarded on December 10, the anniversary of founder Alfred Nobel’s death. Last year, the Nobel Prize for Medicine went to Swedish evolution researcher Svante Pääbo. He was honored “for his discoveries about the genomes of the ancestors of modern humans and human evolution.”
