After a jogger in Upper Austria was attacked by a dog on Monday and fatally injured, the animal corner “Krone” is now speaking out. We must now prevent discussions about dog ownership from going in the wrong direction. “Not every dog is an animal!”
According to animal expert Maggie Entenfellner from “Krone”, we now have to ask ourselves how we can get the problem better under control. The long-standing demand of the animal corner “Krone” is therefore: Every dog owner should have his animal inspected annually to determine how the animal behaves in daily life. Such control would also be conceivable if the animal reaches a certain weight, says Entenfellner. “It is not about whether the chair or space can be used, but how the dog behaves together with, for example, other dogs or children.”
The animal expert from ‘Krone’ also wonders whether it is still appropriate for private dog owners to train their dogs for protection, ‘so that they are essentially a living weapon’. Entenfellner: “That was not the case in this case, but it is usually these types of animals that lead to dangerous, sometimes even fatal attacks.”
Of course, you can break bad habits, says Entenfellner. As tragic as this incident is, we cannot forget that dogs provide incredible services to humanity. “Every time there’s a natural disaster, an earthquake or a flood, it’s the dogs that find people. We should also be grateful that we can have these animals by our side.”
