“All dogs must go” – that was the biggest demand after the fatal attack by Staffordshire terrier “Elmo” in Naarn, Upper Austria. Initially, the dogs’ owners resisted the pick-up and delivery. Now things look different.
The 36-year-old owner, who is still at home – her partner was also seriously injured by the dog – admitted on Tuesday evening. “Through a person she trusted, I agreed with her that the dogs would be given away,” confirms Mayor Martin Gaisberger.
“I am happy that the owner has responded to the neighbors’ demands. This means that the biggest pressure is now off,” says the local leader, who hopes that the community can now focus on the mourning.
The dogs were not officially removed, but given away voluntarily. The local boss doesn’t know where they are. In addition to the four adult Staffordshire Terriers, the seven puppies were also given away.
