According to a report, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s abuse of a defenseless man by his son will not affect the Kadyrovs. Police in Grozny, the capital of the Russian republic in the North Caucasus, have halted the proceedings on the grounds that Kadyrov’s son Adam, at the age of 15, is not yet criminally liable, news channel Telegram Baza reported on Wednesday.
According to Russian criminal law, parents are also liable for their children. However, nothing is known about any investigation against the dictatorial Ramzan Kadyrov in Chechnya by the authorities subordinate to him.
Ex-presidential candidate has filed suit
Well-known TV presenter and ex-presidential candidate Xenia Sobchak complained that the complaint she filed with the State Investigative Commission about the video publication had no consequences. Adam Kadyrov is not under investigation. “And it looks like there won’t be any,” she wrote on her own Telegram channel “Krowavaya Barynya” (“Bloody Mistress”).
The beating victim was arrested for burning the Quran
Last week, Kadyrov posted a video online of his son Adam brutally beating a defenseless prisoner. The victim is a 19-year-old Russian who was arrested in May for a public burning of the Koran in Volgograd and later transferred to the predominantly Muslim Russian republic of Chechnya. Kadyrov said on the video that he was proud of his son.
The clip has provoked strong reactions in Russia – not only from civil rights activists, but also from right-wing nationalists. Calls for criminal prosecution of Kadyrov grew louder. However, a few days later, Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstratively welcomed and praised his governor in Grozny to the Kremlin. The 46-year-old has been accused for years of serious human rights violations such as kidnapping, torture and murder.
