Due to Ukrainian drone strikes, power has been cut in dozens of cities in Russia’s western Kursk region, according to official reports. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continue to advance in the south and expand their positions in conquered areas.
The governor of Kursk said on his Telegram channel on Thursday that infrastructure objects in Sudzha, Korenovo and Glushkovo districts were attacked during the drone strikes. All three districts border Ukraine.
Two substations affected
According to the news channel “Shot” on Telegram, two substations in Sudzha and Glushkovo were hit, causing a total of 67 cities to lose power. Starowoit confirmed the power outages without providing specific figures.
According to the governor, the city of Rylsk, located near the border, was also shelled with cluster munitions. “A woman suffered moderate splinter wounds and was taken to the district hospital where she received medical treatment,” he wrote. Several houses, garages and vehicles were damaged by the cluster munitions.
Ukraine is advancing further in the south
Ukraine says it is making further progress in the south. “We have achieved partial success west of Robotyne,” the southern group’s spokesman said on state TV. “In some areas we have moved between 100 and 600 meters.” Ukrainian forces would continue to expand their positions. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said its troops repelled Russian attacks near Robotyne and Verbove.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian forces have tried unsuccessfully to retake the area near Andriyivka in the east, which Ukraine retook last month. Reuters news agency was initially unable to independently verify reports of the fighting and territorial gains.
The US sends seized ammunition
Meanwhile, the US has sent ammunition seized from Iran to Ukraine. The ammunition was originally seized by the US military from a ship in the Gulf of Oman in December 2022, the responsible US Military Regional Command (CENTCOM) and the Ministry of Justice announced on Wednesday (local time).
Russia has been waging a war of aggression against Ukraine for 19 months and has repeatedly bombarded the Ukrainian hinterland with cruise missiles, drones and rockets. In return, Moscow also complains about the increasing shelling of its border regions by Ukrainian forces.
