Horrible alpine accident in the Tyrolean mountains! A local man (66) apparently fell into a gully while returning from a tour. After family members reported the man missing, his body was discovered Thursday morning.
According to police, the 66-year-old may have fallen about 60 meters over steep rocky terrain into a gully on Wednesday afternoon on his way home from the “Großer Bettelwurf” in Absam. “It is still unclear why,” the police said. The alpinist suffered fatal injuries.
Body discovered during search
At 5 a.m. on Thursday, family members finally raised the alarm and reported the disappearance to the police. A search was immediately started with the participation of the Hall in Tyrol mountain rescue service, search dogs from the mountain rescue dog team, Alpine police officers, the police helicopter and police patrols. Around 8 a.m. the sad certainty came: the body of the missing man was discovered by the police helicopter crew and subsequently recovered.
