An ORF employee’s lawsuit against her employer is bearing fruit. After Sonja Sagmeister went to the labor and social court in Vienna because she felt discriminated against, she has now been fired by ORF.
Sagmeister, who has worked at ORF since 1994, accused her employer for the first time of experiencing significant discrimination since she protested against the conditions in an interview with Economic Affairs Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) in October last year: by superiors in her function, journalistic freedom is limited.
Deported to the “death archives”
The transfer to the so-called ‘death archive’, another department without independent journalistic investigative activities, is said to have only taken place because it refused to intervene. Several of her contributions were also reportedly rejected.
The former ORF correspondent (Brussels and Greece) did not accept this and sued her employer. According to media reports, Sagmeister was fired by ORF shortly before the first court hearing. Neither ORF nor Sagmeister have issued a statement.
