A fatal fall during a chase in Salzburg cost Andreas (15) his life in the autumn, reports the “Krone”. Now the boy’s next of kin have received their own accident report.
Six months have passed since the tragic accident on a dirt road in St. Andrä im Lungau. Andreas (15) drove away from the police on his moped at that time. Multiple patrols followed the boy until he fell onto the dirt road and was fatally run over by the next police van.
At the end of February, the prosecutor’s office dropped the criminal case against the driver of the accident vehicle, a police officer – but in mid-April, at the request of the victim’s family, the regional court gave permission to continue the investigation. The next of kin have now had a private report drawn up.
Private valuation contradicts court judgment
The result: “Technically, the depth of the suspect when driving behind the motorcycle was too small,” concludes the Viennese expert Wolfgang Pfeiffer. When driving in tandem, a minimum distance of 15 meters is required, according to the expert. Court-appointed accident expert Gerhard Kronreif, on the other hand, found that a “rare circumstance” – the footrest stuck in the ground – had decisively shortened the braking distance.
In any case, the Public Prosecution Service is now conducting further investigations: a criminal complaint on suspicion of culpable homicide is expected.
