For the 23rd time already – Long night in the Austrian museums!

Date:

Night in the Museum – this Saturday is already possible for the 23rd time. In Vienna alone, more than 110 institutions open their doors outside regular opening hours.

This is the 23rd time that ORF has organized the popular cultural event – this year numerous museums and galleries are taking part and opening their doors to night owls from 6pm to 1am. Visitors can choose their personal highlights from the wide range and visit all participating hotels with just one ticket. Not only small, curious and large, renowned cultural institutions are participating again this year, but also many new locations waiting to be discovered by the ‘Long Night’ visitors.

In addition to varied exhibitions in each state, numerous events and special events are offered again this year. This year the focus is again on the thirst for knowledge of our little ones, because a nighttime visit to the museum is especially worthwhile for young explorers: children up to 12 years old not only have free access to the cultural institutions, but also to numerous special programs designed for the youngest among us. Long Night of the Museums” for an exciting cultural experience!

More than 110 institutions participated this year in Vienna alone
More than 110 institutions are participating in Vienna alone. Some highlights from the federal capital include:

At night in Lower Austria in the museum
Not only the state capital St. Pölten is home to a number of museums worth seeing in Lower Austria – in all four districts there is much to see for visitors of all ages. In the blue-yellow state capital, a total of five houses are open to visitors all evening. In addition to the House of Nature and the House of History, both of which can be found in the Lower Austrian Museum in the government district, you can discover the city museum and the cathedral museum right in the center. On Frauenplatz, the courtyard museum is dedicated to the history of the local labor movement. But there is also a lot to discover outside St. Pölten: there are no fewer than 117 museums between Enns and Leitha.

Walk into Burgenland late at night
In Burgenland, 39 museums and collections invite you on a journey of cultural discovery and offer a varied program for young and old. The opening of the Burgenland “ORF Long Night of Museums” will take place outside Eisenstadt for the first time this year, in the Friedensburg Schlaining (at 6 p.m.). The central starting point for visitors to Eisenstadt is the “Treffpunkt Museum” in the town hall gallery.

Candlelight and chocolate in Styria
Varied and colorful, full of knowledge and history, full of creativity and art – this is how the Styrian museum landscape presents itself. And during the Long Night of Museums you can take a lot of them with you at once: with just one ticket, 79 museum doors in Styria are open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. And many have come up with special programs for this special evening. The range varies from A for Akademie Graz to Z for Zotter Schoko Erlebniswelt, which describes the spectrum nicely.

There are many things to try and participate in in Upper Austria
Also in Upper Austria, 42 museums are currently preparing an exciting support program for this great cultural festival. From 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., knowledge-hungry and adventurous night owls can enjoy numerous offers with just one ticket in hand. On the one hand, classic tours are offered; original objects and multimedia stations increasingly make it a journey through time. On the other hand, there is a lot to try out and participate, especially on this evening.

Travel back in time in Salzburg
Stone Age excavations, medieval festivals in castles or a ride in a historic trolleybus from the 1950s: in just a few hours, Salzburg residents can experience the different eras of the urban and rural past. On Saturday, 45 houses will open their doors between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. as part of the Long Night of the Museums.

Many museums in Carinthia are approaching
72 institutions are participating in the Long Night of Museums in Carinthia. Klagenfurt has something for everyone! Both young and old will get their money’s worth at the Museum of Modern Art Carinthia (MMKK). Crafting and construction are taking place in many places – including in the city museum of Villach, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary under the motto “History meets future”. Digital grave scanning, Roman cinema or microscope station promise special excitement and aha experiences of the interactive kind.

Radios, coins and gigantic hall in Tyrol
Night owls will also be spoiled for choice in Tyrol on Saturday. Between St. Anton am Arlberg and Jochberg in the Leukental, 61 houses open their doors to culture lovers and offer an exciting program. 33 stations have prepared special offers for children. In and around the capital, the density of participating museums and galleries is of course particularly high.

Please cross the border sometime
The “ORF Long Night of Museums” also annually offers the opportunity in Vorarlberg to discover what was previously undiscovered. The easiest way to do this is to choose one of the tour buses that go to all the museums in a certain region. This is a convenient way to explore our neighboring country culturally: Liechtenstein has a wealth of cultural attractions that are definitely worth a visit. The cultural heavyweight is of course the art museum in Vaduz. There are currently three exhibitions on display.
